Vision and Values
‘Winford School - where children flourish and are valued, nurtured and encouraged as individuals to fulfil their potential within a Christian environment’
The key word for us in the above vision is to Flourish. We want our children to flourish academically, emotionally, personally and spiritually. Everything we do is underpinned by the idea of children flourishing in one way or another.

We strive for our pupils to flourish academically so that pupils see value in effort, achieve well and be the best that they can be. ‘An intelligent heart acquires knowledge and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge’ Proverbs 18:15 ‘If you stop learning, you will forget what you already know’ Proverbs 19:27 |
We aim for pupils to be reflective, be able to ask big questions, to appreciate a sense of awe in the world, and react emotionally such things. ‘ But the fruit of the spirit is: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self-control;’ Galations 22-23 ‘In the farthest corners of the earth the glorious acts of God shall startle everyone. Our desire is that pupils learn about recognising their own emotions, what they mean and how to deal with them positively. ‘Be angry and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.’ Ephesians 4:26 Be strong and courageous. ‘Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’ Joshua 1:9 |
To flourish personally, we aim for pupils to grow and develop into a good citizen, to develop interests talents and a sound set of morals based around our Christian values. ‘let us stop just saying we love people; let us really love them, and show it by our actions’ 1 John 3:18 ‘Love your neighbour as much as you love yourself.’ Matthew 22:39 |
Through our distinctive Christian nature, we acknowledge our responsibility to all of our community, to enrich the lives of others and show love and respect within our school community. We believe in flourishing through work, spirituality, emotions and personal development in order to equip our children to live life today and be well prepared for tomorrow.

Our Christian values underpin our day to day lives;
Our school community works together to provide vibrant, safe and creative learning experiences for our children. We provide a safe environment which encourages children to be happy, confident and enthusiastic learners and enables them to take risks in their learning, within a climate of high expectation and challenge. We aim to do this in order to prepare learners emotionally, physically, spiritually and intellectually for their life ahead.
We value the partnership with parents and carers very highly and encourage them to take an active role in all aspects of school life. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which everyone feels comfortable and welcome. This extends to our wider school community and external stakeholders as well.

FORGIVENESS |

HAPPINESS |
We want everyone in school to experience happiness in learning, happiness in relationships, happiness in growing. We recognise that sometimes we must feel sadness to help us know what happiness feels like. ‘So be truly glad! DETERMINATION |
We recognise determination in learning through collective worship (Friday celebration) and we value the effort that goes into being determined. ‘but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.’ Isaiah 40:31 |

WISDOM |
We try and encourage pupils to make wise decisions, to reflect before acting and to use experience to gain wisdom. ‘Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.’ Proverbs 19:20 |

HOPE |
We want our pupils to learn that there is hope in things to get better, to gain energy and sustenance through difficult times. We can have hope in a ‘thing’ or in the Lord. ‘We must hold on to the hope we have, never hesitating to tell people about it. We can trust God to do what he promised.’ Hebrews 10:23 |

TRUST |
Trust is a central yet fragile value that we should be able to have, trust in relationships, trust in teachers, trust in God, trust in our government, the list goes on. ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know.’ Proverbs 3:5 |

PEACE |
Peace is about calmness in the heart. It is about harmony, stability and nurture. We would like all of our children to know what peace feels like. Peace is one of the fruits of the spirit. ‘Turn from evil and do good, seek peace and persue it’. Psalm 34:14 |

PATIENCE |
We would like our pupils to learn to be patient. That is patient with others and their needs, patient with our own inadequacies and patient for things instead of instant gratification. ‘ Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.’ Ephesians 4:2 |

COOPERATION |
Everyone needs to be able to cooperate with others. We would like children to learn that this is neither easy nor without conflict. In fact good cooperation requires many of our other values to be in place to be effective. ‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!’ Psalm 133:1 |

RESPECT |
Respect is our one school rule: Respect yourself, respect the building, respect others and respect property. Respect differences in others and their views. ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you.’ Luke 6:31 |

CURIOSITY |
We would like our pupils to be curious about the world around us, to stop, wonder and think and want to know more, want to discover the truth. To ask questions like ‘why is that…?’ ‘what if…?’ and ‘how does that…?’ Curiosity asks more questions than it answers and keeps our minds busy around learning, life, ourselves, others and God. ‘I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done.’ Psalm 143:5 |

HONESTY |
Honesty is a hard value to learn. We would love our pupils to learn to be honest whilst remaining respectful, kind and wise. It is closely linked with trust, respect, peace and forgiveness, but is essential for relationships to build and grow. ‘He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.’ Proverbs 2:7 |
- In order to achieve our Vision Statement, we aim to ensure our children:
- develop enquiring minds and a spirit of curiosity;
- achieve the highest possible standards in all areas of the curriculum;
- become enthusiastic and independent learners;
- work cooperatively and collaboratively;
- have high self esteem and be respectful of others;
- are confident and prepared for the next stage of education
Our Curriculum
Our Curriculum is something that is constantly being reviewed for its effectiveness. It focuses not only on appropriate subject-specific knowledge, skills and understanding (National Curriculum), but also by modelling the Christian values we hold central to our school.
We aim to develop a wide range of learning experiences; a positive mindset; a sense of responsibility, and a curious mind. We do this by embracing pupil’s interests and prior experiences, our local area and national and global events to provide different perspectives.
Our Curriculum strives to ensure that every child can ‘live life in all its fullness,’ (John 10:10) by offering stimulating and awe-inspiring learning experiences with Christian values at its heart.
British Values
Winford Primary School supports, adopts and promotes the British government’s published fundamental British Values. They are consistent with our own school Vision and Values. Through our learning, development, behaviours and values we engage with the breadth and diversity of the whole of British society and the wider world beyond.
We encourage our staff and pupils to see themselves as citizens of Britain and of the world, as well as being a vital and vibrant part of our own local community here in Winford. The four fundamental British values are:

- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs
We actively promote these values in our school life.
