Supporting Wellbeing and Mental Health
Wellbeing at Winford
Wellbeing is essential for every one of us. Here at Winford we care about our children, families and our staff by making sure it is a high priority. As our vision is for children to flourish, flourishing personally and socially is as important as flourishing academically and spiritually. We are underpinned by our 12 Christian values and through teaching about these, they all contribute to a sense of wellbeing.
Our Bible verse is John 10:10 and this talks about living life to the full. This also is about wholeness, which includes wellbeing.
This is a shared responsibility as we try to embed a culture of looking out for others and their wellbeing. We are always happy to talk to anyone who needs support and help where we can. We all have ups and downs in life but in childhood it can be particularly hard to cope with sad feelings and worries that arise when things are hard or scary. There may be times when your child is unhappy or struggling emotionally. You may notice that they seem low or worried or that their behaviour changes. We may notice that they seem withdrawn or upset at school.
If you are worried about your child’s mental health then you are not alone. Many parents and carers have similar worries and stresses . There is good support available from local and national organisations. The sooner you seek help the better for your child and you.
The diagram below shows our graduated response to assisting with wellbeing and positive mental health.
Engagement from parents
We have a pastoral practitioner in school called Mrs Gardner who holds a certificate in Therapeutic Mentoring. She has significant experience in supporting children to thrive. She is available to talk to parents or children. Mrs Gardner operates from our dedicated nurture space, the Rainbow Room.
Our PSHE lessons are based on the Jigsaw scheme of work and allow us to cover many topics, including wellbeing and keeping ourselves safe.
Our school Mental Health First Aiders are Mr Gardner and Mrs Gardner and you can arrange to meet them or speak to them on the phone for a chat if you have concerns about the wellbeing of your child or any other child. Mr Gardner is also our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
